Anchorage is Alaska's largest city, nestled between the Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet. Some ideas on what you can see and do in and around Anchorage include visiting the Museum of History and Art; the Alaska Native Hertiage Center; The Botanical Gardens and the Alaska Zoo where you will see bear, moose, musk ox, seals, and fox, among other animals. Visitors may walk, bike or ski the 11-mile paved Tony Knowles Coastal Trail which offers beautiful views of mountain ranges and Cook Inlet. Locals and visitors alike fish for salmon in Ship Creek. Earthquake Park displays information on the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake, the most powerful tremor ever felt in North America. Portage Glacier and the Begich Boggs Visitor Center may be reached by way of a spectacular 50 mile drive just south of Anchorage. Other activities include bird watching; canoeing, kayaking, rafting, and sailing; cruises in Prince William Sound, Resurrection Bay or Kachemak Bay; dog mushing; fishing; flightseeing; golf; hiking; and skiing. Anchorage offers a sophsicated mix of restaurants from award-winning fine dining establishments to brew pubs with lots of locally brewed beer.
An exceptional B&B, The Lilac House was designed for the convenience and comfort of all guests and is perfect for both the business and pleasure traveler. Ideally located in a quiet, well-established residential neighborhood across the street from Delaney Park and within walking distance of downtown restaurants, shops and the beautiful Coastal Trail. The B&B rooms are accessed through a separate 24 hour entrance, assuring guest privacy. All three rooms are located on the second level of our home. There is a small kitchen available for guest use and a delightful, sunny breakfast room for guests' dining pleasure.
The King Suite is a very large room which features a king-size bed, large comfortable sitting area (sofa), large desk, and a private bath. This room has vaulted ceilings and access to a deck which has views of Cook Inlet and Mt. Susitna. The sunsets are spectacular.
The queen room and twin room both face out over the park across the street and have great views of the mountains and city. These rooms have delightful morning sun. The queen room features a queen-size bed, rocking chair and built-in desk. The twin room has two twin beds, a sitting area, and a built in desk. These two rooms share a bath just a few steps from the rooms. They also share a small balcony.
Driving Directions from the Airport: Follow signs to Anchorage which will take you on International Airport Road. Take the Northbound Minnesota Drive exit and follow this road all the way into town. At 10th Avenue, turn left and follow to P Street. The Lilac House is located at the corner of 10th & Beech Streets straight across the street from the stop sign at P Street.
