In the historic town centre of Utrecht the prestigious Grand Hotel Karel V has opened its doors from September 1999 . The realisation is the result of a striking renovation of the former headquarters of the Teutonic Order . This block of buildings, locally known as the Duitse house, dates from the fourteenth century . Emperor Charles V stayed here, together with his sister, Maria of Hungary, and attended the Chapter Meeting of the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1546 . These names with historic importance are proudly remembered in this magnificent building . Grand Hotel Karel V is the first five star hotel in Utrecht and provides the following facilities: 39 hotel rooms and 5 suites in the Napoleontic wing, 72 hotel rooms and 5 suites in the Roman wing, gastronomic Grand Restaurant Karel V, awarded with a Michelin-star, Brasserie Goeie Louisa with terrace, barcellars Caves Caroli, 12 monumental meeting rooms (total 900 sq . ) and a welness centre with swimming pool, sauna, steamfacilities and solarium for hotel guests surrounded by 10,000 sq . of city gardens with 80 private parking spaces .
