Bicycle tour of Okanagan and Kootenays. Tour up the Okanagan valley, then over the Monashee Pass into the West Kootenays. Two weeks, 30 - 100 km/day (18 - 65 mi/day). Moderately hilly terrain, but few steep hills. This trip attracts both experienced cyclists and beginners.
Historic sites, and friendly to cyclists (enlarge)
Each day begins with a hearty breakfast to prepare you for the road. Then spend the day cycling in awe-inspiring view of the mountains, alpine lakes and river valleys. The cycling is interspersed with visits to museums, wineries, orchards, cappuccino bars and sightseeing stops. Whether you take advantage of these breaks throughout the day or not, the support vehicle is never far away.
Most nights are spent in campgrounds. The first night of the tour is in a bed and breakfast. In Nelson, we spend the night at the local hostel, the former historic Allen Hotel. Breakfasts are in camp (or the hostel), lunches at a scenic stop along the route, and suppers most nights in camp. Some of our overnight stops have wonderful restaurants nearby, and on these nights we have supper in a local restaurant.
