The people are friendly and respectful of privacy, but will lend a hand to help you explore the uninhabited coast with its black and green sand beaches, the Volcanoes National Park and the 25,000 acre Kapapapala Ranch. Pahala is a gateway to Volcanoes National Park, a 12 mile drive to the park's southern entrance. It is 5 minutes from the black sand turtle beach at Punalu1u where you can snorkel among sea turtles.
