The East Block of the Grasslands National Park (#4/7) The Killdeer Badlands of the Grasslands National Park are the site of discovery of the first Dinosaur to be found in Western Canada and of many fossils since that time. It has been set aside by the Federal Government to conserve the natural grasses, flowers, birds and animals in their original pristine settings.
North West Mounted Police Post, Wood Mountain (#5/7) Established in 1874 near the Jean Louis Legare Trading Post, it was from this North West Mounted Police that Inspector James Morrow Walsh maintained watch over some 5000 Sioux Warriors who sought refuge in Canada after the Battle of the Little Big Horn. This historic site is professionally staffed from May until September.
St. Victor Petroglyphs (#6/7) The Petroglyphs are the prehistoric rock art of the aboriginal peoples. Dating from as far back as 12,000 years, they include some 320 carvings that depict many animals that no longer exist, and are one of only five places where the art is on the top of the cliffs.
The Sam Kelly Outlaw Caves (#7/7) In the Big Muddy Badlands and within sight of the Montana Border, this is the site chosen by Butch Cassidy as the northern terminus for the infamous Outlaw Trail that ran from Canada to Mexico, providing various unsavoury characters refuge from the Law.
