The Half Day Sapelo Island tour includes the scenic ferry ride to the Island, unspoiled beaches, scenic lighthouse, community of Gullah Geechee descendants of former slaves on the Island, University of Georgia's Marine Institute, R.J. Reynolds millionaire playboy's mansion, and the fascinating story of his four wives and four divorces!
We start by visiting the historical time line museum at the Sapelo Island Visitor's Center, the board the ferry for the 30 minute trip to the Island as dolphins, sea gulls, and pelicans play in the wake. Taking a rented vehicle on the Island, we visit the University of Georgia's Marine Institute with it's interesting turkey fountain, the 200 year old R.J. Reynolds Mansion, the beautiful Sapelo Island Lighthouse, Sapelo's unspoiled and undeveloped beaches, and the Hog Hammock National Historic Area, home of African-American Gullah-Geechee descendants of the Island's former slaves, and haunted Behavior Cemetery!
Pet friendly, but dogs and cats must be on a leash or in the arms of the owner on the ferry, no drinking of alcoholic beverages on the ferry, masks required if riding inside the ferry's cabin, no smoking in the cabin. Riding outside on the top deck is recommended.
