The Grand Narrows Hotel is conveniently located in central Cape Breton making it the ideal home-base for traveling to many of the Island's destinations Standing prominently on the eastern shores of the Barra Strait on the Bras d'Or Lakes, the Hotel is intrinsically tied to the rich history and culture of the area and is an enduring testament to the era in which it rose. Local scottish dances, Gaelic learning, and Scottish museum are only a stones throw away. Highland Village Museum, and Feis an Eilien are only a 5 min drive.
We are located on the Bras d'Or lakes, nestled between the lake and a backyard pond. The B&B consists of 3 floors, main areas on first, rooms on second, and five future rooms on the third floor. We have a large first and second floor deck for our guests to relax and take in the peaceful surroundings and beautiful sunsets over the hills of Iona.
The B&B provides breakfast daily for its guests. Just a stroll down the road you will find a Convenience/Liquor Store for any amenities and refreshments. Across the water at the Highland Heights you will find a dining room serving lunch and dinner. Further down the road is Rosie's takeout for fastfood dishes. There is free wireless internet access at the B&B, however, a CAP site is located in Iona for internet users. The local Legion is only a 5 min drive in Iona, they have weekly friday night suppers, and the ocasional dance. The Christmas Island firehall is a 5 min drive, the Feis an Eilian holds its Scottish concerts and dances here.
Our B&B offers 4 bedrooms, each with private ensuite baths. Alexander Graham Bell was a frequent visitor to the hotel in its hayday - stay in his room during your stay! The front rooms, Bell Room and MacLennan Room, are our largest rooms. They are on the front of the building overlooking the lake. They also have large 5 piece baths. The MacNeil room is a smaller cozy room on the back of the building, catching the morning sunrises with a 4 piece bath. The MacDougall room is on the back of the building overlooking the pond, with a 5 piece bath. All rooms have Queen beds, with the exceptiong of the MacDougall Room which has a Double.
