In 1929, O.C. Thorarensen built the house that now stands tall in Hafnarstraeti 104, as a premises for his pharmacy. The upper floors have served many purposes over the years, for example as an infant clinic, municipal social offices etc. However it was in 1999 that the Guesthouse Akureyri took over the upper floors, and established there a family-friendly guesthouse. Since then, two more buildings in close proximity have been added.
It's ideal location in the town's centre, has made it one of the most popular guesthouse in Akureyri. It is within easy reach of diverse services, such as shops, cinemas, theatre, swimming pool, restaurants, medical care cafi s and discos/bars. A 24 hour convenience store is located close to the guesthouse.
Akureyri is situated in the north-east , often named the capital of northern Iceland. Ask anyone in Iceland where the best weather is and most of them will say Akureyri, the others you can for sure not trust!
The guesthouse has 44 rooms to offer its guests, all with comfortable made up beds, sinks and with multi channel TV in each room. There are both single as well as double rooms available, with or without private facilities. Those without private facilities have shared facilities located on each floor.
The great staff of Guesthouse Akureyri look forward for your visit and are there to answer all your questions.
