Kannankeril Homestay is one of the farm houses of kumbalangy, which is an island-village on the out skirts of Cochin city of Kerala State in South India . By road it is 45 Km. from the Kochi International Airport , 15 Km. from Ernakulam Railway Station, and 16Km.from Ernakulam KSRTC Bus Stand (Govt.bus stand). The renowned Cultural Heritage Zone of Fort Cochin & Mattancherry is only at a short distance of 10 Km.
Kumbalangy is surrounded by backwaters. A ring of Chinese fishing nets literally encircle the island –village bearing witness to the rich aquatic life. An array of mangroves separate land from water providing a breeding ground for prawns, crabs, oysters and small fishes. The village which is 16 Sq.Km .in area is home to fishermen, farmers, labourers, toddy tappers and coir spinners all alike.
The farm house of Lt. K.P.Job stands amidst the canopy of tropical trees on a large compound that merges gently into the backwaters of Cochin . It is situated in Kumbalangy, one of the many villages clinging to the outskirts of Cochin City . Antique Barn: It is built with Anjily wood by talented carpenters for storing paddy and to preserve seeds for the next season. Air passage is provided on all the six surfaces to ensure a constant temperature within. It is decorated with special grooves all around, which the carpenters say are spirits to protect the barn- however it was their clever invention to secure adequate work since the process was tedious and time consuming.
Palm leaf document. Broad stripes of palm leaf bound together was used in place of paper for writing documents. A sharp metal knife was used for writing on it.
Coconut Processing Unit. The deshelled coconut is spread on a specially ventilated platform and intense heat is provided by burning coconut shells in the Owen below. The copra (dried fruit) is thus seasoned and preserved for storage in order to take advantage of favorable market.
Fish Ponds. Two fish ponds, one beside the backwaters and other in the compound are maintained.
Country boat & Fishing Nets. The country boat is equipped with fishing nets and it is manned by chauriar who is an experienced fisherman.
Vehicle Facility. Transportation is provided at all times to any destination in kerala.
