Located in Japan's Shikotsu Toya National Park, the Hotel Kawanami offers reasonably-priced accommodation in a beautiful setting. The hotel is situated on the shore of Lake Toya close to many attractions. In addition to the lake (with water sports such as wakeboarding, jet-skiing, water skiing, motor boating, and fishing), the hotel is near two active volcanoes (Showa-Shinzan and Usu), the Pacific Ocean, a golf course, and ski areas. From the end of April until October 31, Toya-Onsen puts on a nightly fireworks show that you can view from the Rotemburo (outdoor hot springs bath). The Hotel Kawanami is a wonderful place to visit.
50 bedrooms (TV and phone) -- many with their own lavatories and toilets. Most are Japanese-style (with tatami-mat floors and futons). Some are Western-style (with beds). Various natural hot springs baths for men and for women -- both indoor and outdoor -- are open 24-hours a day. Full-service bar Recreation room with table tennis and karaoke and pool room. The owners and some of the hotel staff speak English. All rates are accommodation only. If you need brakfast and dinner, please ask about it at reception desk when your arrival. We can prepare dinner from 1500 yen and breakfast from 800 yen.
Directions
By automobile: Take the Abuta/Toya-Onsen exit off the Hokkaido Expressway and head north to Toya-Onsen. Go east on Route 230 for about 2 kilometers. The Hotel Kawanami will be on the south side of the road. It takes about 10 minutes to reach the hotel from the Hokkaido Expressway exit. There is free parking available. Covenience store is just next door.
By train: Take the JR train to the Toya Station. Take the bus bound for Toya-Onsen from the bus stop in front of the train station and get off at the last stop (Toya-Onsen bus station -- about a 15 minute ride). Take the local bus bound for Showa-Shinzan or the bus bound for Muroran via Soubetsu from the bus station. Get off at the Hotel Kawanami exit (about a 6-minute ride).
By bus: From Sapporo, take a Jotetsu bus to Toya-Onsen and tell the driver you are going to the Hotel Kawanami. You will be brought to the Hotel Kawanami's entrance (about a 3 hour ride). You can also take a Donen bus from Sapporo or Hakodate that will bring you to the Toya-Onsen bus station. From there, take the bus bound for Showa-Shinzan or the bus bound for Muroran via Soubetsu. Get off at the Hotel Kawanami exit (about a 6-minute ride).
By air: Served by Hakodate and New Chitose airports, both of which connect to the Haneda, Narita, and Kansai airports. From New Chitose airport, take the shuttle to the Chitose Station 3 minutes, then the train to the Toya Station 97 minutes) and use the local bus service as listed above.
