LOST WORLD ADVENTURES arranges specialized tours and expeditions in South America and Central America. Our company was founded in 1986, when we pioneered our first adventure trips into Venezuela. We now arrange travel throughout Latin America.
Welcome to Peru, the third largest country in South America. Peru was home to the powerful Inca civilation, which fought against the Spaniards for control of the area from the 16th into the 19th century. From the astounding Machu Picchu ruins to the diverse wildlife in the Amazonas, this nine-day tour offers extraordinary experiences in the best of the historic and panoramic regions of Peru. Moderate activity. No special skills needed.
Rise and shine for an early morning pick up and transfer to the train station where you’ll set off on a scenic 4-hour trip through the Urubamba Valley, followed by a 20-minute bus ride up to the breathtaking "Lost City" of the Incas--Machu Picchu.
Set in the saddle of a mountain 1,000 feet above the Urubamba River, Machu Picchu remained "lost" in jungle undergrowth until it was rediscovered by American explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911. Because the existence of Machu Picchu remained undetected for so many years, it escaped ransacking by the Spaniards and is reasonably well preserved. Upon arrival, you’ll set off with your guide to explore the walls, stairways, temples and terraces of Machu Picchu. For the more energetic, a moderate 2 mile hike up to the Sun Gate offers fabulous views overlooking this ancient wonder. Those in terrific physical shape (and with a strong head for heights) may wish to hike the very steep trail to the top of Huayna Picchu for amazing views of the entire region. You will overnight at Hotel Machu Picchu Ruinas or Pueblo, with breakfast included.
