Located in the Tilaran Mountain Range at 4,600 ft. above sea level on the edge of the world's best known mid-elevation cloud forest.Monteverde is a peaceful community made up of dairy farmers, naturalists and tourism service providers who have joined together to create a model for sustainable development and protection of the environment that is becoming known throughout the world.
Many of our guests find that their most enjoyable time in Costa Rica is spent in the Monteverde Lodge Gardens. Emphasizing ferns and bromeliads, we have chosen native plant species that replicate the natural cloud forest and attract its fauna. A running stream, pond and small waterfall provide a habitat for riverine birds and a host of reptiles and amphibians. Carefully placed benches provide a comfortable place, offer privacy and/or panoramic vistas to observe the wildlife, read, write, or just wile away the hours.
The rooms at the Lodge are designed to put you "in the forest" while protecting you from the mist and strong wind so characteristic of the area. All are spacious with solar heated hot water private baths.
Dining room with its cloud forest mural, abundant tropical flora, and contemporary design is the perfect setting for enjoying a unique a la carte cuisine lovingly created especially for Monteverde by Hugo "Perla" Salas, the person responsible for the meals.
Monteverdei s climate is, in general, cool and comfortable. Temperature and humidity level in Monteverde change dramatically over relatively short distances which allows for six different ecological communities. You are able to enjoy tremendous diversity of species with relatively little walking. However, it is important to note that some trails can be steep and muddy. Rain gear is essential for a trip to Monteverde, as are hiking or rain boots that have good traction. Visitors to Monteverde should not be averse to rain or to getting wet and should be prepared for some very rewarding, non-strenuous wildlife viewing.
