ENCUENTROS immersion Spanish focuses on students who need Spanish for professional purposes or other specific reasons such as travel in Spanish-speaking countries. Fun, effective communicative approach. Weekend excursions. Homestays recommended.
The ENCUENTROS motto: "Speaking Spanish is the Key to Mastering It". Language classes and other activities are designed to get our students talking! The fun, exciting communicative approach is carried out in small group classes (never more than four students to a teacher.) Programs for professionals who need work-related Spanish include private tutorials focusing on specific language goals. We accommodate complete beginners to very advanced students.
Each week new students arrive so classes are re-organized on Mondays. The week begins with an hour-long coversation to assess new students' levels, followed by an outing in Cuernavaca while the week's schedule is elaborated. Spanish is for two hours only on Monday, three hours every other day followed by Conversation/Pronunciation, and finally "Survival Spanish" for beginners, and "Charlas" (presentations on Mexican traditions, history, culture) for intermediate and advanced. A second visit in Cuernavaca on Thursdays rounds out the weekly schedule. Afternoon activities (cooking classes, movies, and language interchanges) are included in the tuition. Additional courses such as salsa dancing and crafts are recommended for further language practice.
The average age is 28 but ENCUENTROS has had students from four years to 85. The program is aimed at motivated individuals who wish to acquire Spanish rather than large groups of university students seeking to fulfill credit requirements.
ENCUENTROS recommends homestays with Mexican families. We have all kinds of homestays on our housing list (big or small, with children/without, with pets/without, etc) and ask students several questions about preferences to plan the homestay. We offer each incoming student three family descriptions to choose from and email the name and address of the student's choice before his/her arrival. Student who choose to use the airport shuttle are met by their Mexican family at the Cuernavaca bus station where the shuttle arrives.
No need to send fees in advance - all charges can be paid upon arrival at ENCUENTROS. The easiest and safest way to pay for classes and housing is with American Express Travellers' checks. The school does not have the facility to accept credit cards but students can access pesos at ATM machines if they prefer and pay the fees at the peso/dollar rate of the day of payment.
