Distant Relatives is just a short distance (2km) from the main highway connecting Mombasa to Watamu, Malindi, and Lamu. If you are coming by local transport (matatu), jump off at Tusky’s Supermarket, where you can see our sign just across the road pointing you in the right direction. From there, many motorbikes (“piki-pikisâ€) and tuk-tuks will be able to take you to our place usually for about Ksh 100/150. If the driver does not seem to know about us, tell him “it is the second left after Seahorse Lodgeâ€. Once you make the turn off the main tarmac road, just follow the signs!
We can also organize a taxi to pick you up from from Mombasa Airport, Mombasa Railways train station, Malindi Airport, and elsewhere. Daytime pick-ups are normally Ksh 3,500 and nighttime pick-ups are normally Ksh 4,500. Don’t hesitate to call us if you have any questions or get lost!
If you are driving your own vehicle: After crossing Kilifi bridge, continue driving straight past Tusky's supermarket. Turn left when you see the sign "Makuti Villas" as well our sign “Distant Relatives Ecolodge & Backpackersâ€. Follow the signs from there â€" we are located about 2.5km down this dirt road.
